Christmas is coming, and we wanted to let you know that you can now sign up to this year’s Christmas veg boxes at https://vegbox.shybynaturefarm.ie/boxes. NB. there is a limited number of boxes available and slots are filling up!

A veg box for the 12 days of Christmas

Boxes will be available on Monday 23 December at our collection points in Donegal Town, Ardara and Killybegs. The veg is grown regeneratively at Shy By Nature Farm, which is in conversion to organic, plus some staples that require a long time to grow are sourced from Irish certified organic farms and friends.

Available in 3 sizes - Small, Medium, Large - the Christmas veg boxes include:

  • Staples such as potatoes, carrots and brussels sprouts in the small box, plus parsnips, red cabbage and onions in the medium and large

  • All you need for a salad post the big day, with a winter salad leaf mix, spring onions, fennel

  • A mix of tasty leaves perfect for a stir fry including Wasabi, Pak Choi, Tatsoi, Chinese cabbage, crown daisy, spinach, kale and chard in the small box, plus portions of rainbow chard or spinach in the medium and large

  • Bunches of fresh mixed beetroot and salad turnips which are all looking great in the garden, plus a mix of winter radishes

  • Plus leeks and celery, some tasty parsley, and more!

  • For the full options for this Christmas see https://vegbox.shybynaturefarm.ie/boxes.

Add ons to boxes - Homemade bread, microgreens and Christmas wreaths

Alongside the boxes, we are delighted to have some great add ons:

  • Want some extra veg? This Christmas you can order extra organic potatoes, carrots, parsnips, onions and brussels sprouts. Click here for more detail.

  • Homemade bread - Baked to order by Thomas Becht on his biodynamic farm up in Glenties. You can choose between rye and spelt bread, made with either organic yeast or organic sourdough. Grains are milled on the day of baking, or for sourdough - the day before baking.

  • Christmas wreaths - The wonderful Ines Eggers of Anois Handcraft who volunteers with us, is again making beautiful Christmas wreaths, all made with natural materials.

  • Award winning microgreens - Having just met Jaime from The Grow House a year ago, am delighted to see her microgreens go from strength to strength, most recently winning at the Blas na hEireann awards.

  • Gift vouchers - Know someone that likes vegetables and lives in south Donegal? You can now give them Gift Vouchers from Shy By Nature Farm worth 25 euros, about the value of the Summer standard vegetable box. This can be redeemed as part of the 2025 veg box season, which will run May to November next year. If you would like gift vouchers for a different amount, you can email us on shybynaturefarm@gmail.com, and we can arrange.

Sponsor a Christmas veg box

Last year, 17 boxes were donated or sponsored to go to the families supported by the Bluestack Special Needs Foundation, it was a great delivery. If you’d like to sponsor a veg box, check out here.

Last volunteer opportunity of 2024

What a year it has been, without our wonderful volunteers we wouldn’t be able to do all that we’ve done this year. If you are interested in volunteering and helping out on our last harvest of 2024, do get in contact by email shybynaturefarm@gmail.com or whatsapp me on 0894032153. It should be a cracking one, and I’m sure there will be some mulled wine to keep us warm ;)

Merry Christmas! Ronan and crew x
