Tree planting (and care) day - 18 March 2023

We are very happy to be able to invite you to join us at Shy By Nature Farm for a tree planting and care day - plus give you a sneak peek tour of the new vegetable market garden as we launch our vegetable box pilot for this coming summer season.

What’s happening?

We’ve been busy here getting the new vegetable market garden ready for its first year, and we’d love to share it with you as we begin propagating for the launch of this year’s pilot of vegetable boxes for south Donegal.

On trees, we will be planting around 1,100 native hedge and shelterbelt trees (including hawthorn, rowan, hazel, blackthorn, oak and more..), kindly provided to us by the people at Trees on the Land (https://www.treesontheland.com), as well as doing some caretaking of trees planted in the last few years.

We will also be planting some 30 semi-dwarf fruit trees (apples, pears and plums) in the new vegetable market garden as part of ‘Orchards In The Community’, a strand of the DCs for Bees initiative (https://orchards.ie/).
